REUZE XYLOFOON

De Reuze-Xylofoon is 2.5 meter hoog en is ontworpen en gebouwd in 1985.
Hij is gemaakt van Russisch grenen balken.
de klank van dit hout en de maat van de balk inspireerde Martien Goeneveld tot het bouwen van dit instrument.
De maat, de vorm en het feit dat de xylofoon rechtopstaat bepalen een aantal speeltechnieken die Martien in de loop der jaren ontwikkeld heeft.
Het spel van Martien op de Reuze-Xylofoon kent vele stiltemomenten maar kan er ook uitzien als ' topsportmuziek' in verband met grootte van het instrument.
In ' De Kring van Hout' bespeelt Martien Groeneveld samen met 4 andere slagwerkers vijf van deze xylofoons.
De Reuze-Xylofoon is door het formaat ook heel geschikt om door meerder mensen tegelijk bespeeld te worden, bijvoorbeeld in interactie met het publiek.

GIANT XYLOPHONE

The Giant Xylophone is 2.5 meter high.
It is made of massive Russian pine wood and was invited and built in 1985.
Martien Groeneveld got inspired by the sound of the wood and the size of the bar gave him the idea to build such a big scale instrument.
In order to play this huge xylophone he developed various playing technics during the years.
Playing it can look like ' topsportmusic' but can at the other hand have moments of silence.
In his project 'Circle of Wood' 5 of this xylophones are played.
Also one xylophone can be played very well with several people at the same time, for instance as an interactive piece.
